Join us online for a conversation with Chris Downey—architect, planner
and consultant.
Despite losing his vision in 2008, Chris continues to practice architecture, enrich lives, and create connections for the blind and visually impaired through the use of universal design in dynamic accessible environments.
In addition to hearing Chris’ story, we’ll explore his multi-sensory approach to design.
Through the radical juxtaposition of his visual memory with his non-visual experience, Chris realized that he still thinks, creates and works visually in his mind and has developed a detachable relationship to his blind persona, as if to be his blind avatar. This fascinates him with surprising “outsights” - special insights about architecture, the city and the world around him gained through the benefit of losing sight.
